Solar Panel Pest Protection
Solar Panel Pest Protection
At Direct Roof Repairs, we have lots of experience with pigeon proofing solar panels. We have found a way to do so which does not harm any animals and will permanently keep out pigeons or any other birds which may find their way under your panels. We really are the right people to call as our teams are fully trained in health and safety and best practices of bird proofing on solar panels and you can rest assured that we will resolve your bird problem once and for all!
Why you may think that the only problem pigeons will cause you is to your panels, you are actually at risk from another factor – bird mites. These nasty little critters are microscopic but don’t under estimate them. They get in through the droppings of the pigeons on the roof and will make their way throughout your home. The symptoms of these parasites are pinprick bites, often followed by intense itching (with or without lesions) and crawing sensations on the body, with increased activity at night. When a large area is covered in bites it will appears as if you have a rash which is often mistaken for scabies. Once a house is heavily infested it is very difficult to fully eradicate and can be expensive. The addition of nests on your roof will mean that there is a significantly higher chance of your house being infested with bird mites. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible and this is were our team comes in.
We use products that allow us to give you a five year warranty on the work we carry out. We will never drill into your roof, house or panels as we use plastic coated steel clips to attach a galvanised mesh to deter birds and pigeons. It will prevent them from nesting under your panels and discourage them from landing on your property.
Our team of trained pest controllers are at your disposal and so we hope to hear from you if you ever have a problem!
Pigeon Proofing for Solar Panels
While not necessarily the first thing you think of when it comes to roofing, anyone in the solar panel industry will tell you that pigeons under solar panels can be devastating. They will pull out all of the wiring which might not be covered by your warranty and will definitely cause you to need new panels if you leave the pigeons under the panels. Our team of experienced roofers are all fully trained in the implementation of bird proofing solar panels and alongside the actual nesting of the pigeons and the damage they cause to the wires, the dropping they leave on your roof can cause a horrible knock on effect as shown below, but also can lower the performance of your panels.
Pigeon Proofing for General Roofs
However, solar panels or not, if you have a lot of pigeons sitting on your roof often then there is a real reason to try and deal with them! Bird mites are microscopic parasites that can be truly devastating if they get into your home. They live primarily on birds but if these birds nest or defecate on you roof, the mites will work their way down through the loft space and into your main living quarters. The symptoms of these parasites are pinprick bites, often followed by intense itching (with or without lesions) and crawing sensations on the body, with increased activity at night. Many people label bird mites as “the creepy crawlies” or “nose ticklers”. The mite’s saliva is what causes the intense itching and when a large area is covered in bites it will appears as if you have a rash which is often mistaken for scabies. Bird mites will live throughout the whole house but will usually infest bedrooms and areas commonly inhabited by their human prey. While they tend to go for birds, as the name implies, they will go for any kind of animal if their primary source of food isn’t available. Once a house is heavily infested it is very difficult to fully eradicate and can be expensive. This is why it is a good idea to get your roof protected against birds.
While some consider them cute and cuddly, squirrels in reality are little better than rats! By chewing through anything including water pipes, electric cables, and all manner of other items they aim to build their nests in warm, secure paces , like your loft or chimney. As you can well imagine, these determined creatures cause chaos wherever they go, and this can make them both difficult to get out and keep out. This is where we come in! Our team can go in, safely remove all the squirrels, block and holes of gaps and prevent the pesky critters from re-entering.
The most common squirrel, the grey squirrel (Sciurus carilonensis), has a particularly long breeding season and with the exception of October through January, it is always possible to find young squirrels in a nest, a fact our team are very aware of.
